Your Domain Name
One of the biggest challenges you may face in the creation of your website is deciding on a domain name. Your “domain name” is the website address that will identify your website. For instance, the actual name of this website is “Katetian Moon Designs,” but the domain name is www.katetianmoon.com. Your domain name should be something that is easily remembered by your potential readers or clients, yet unique enough to be available for use.
Come up with several possibilities for domain names and then go to www.godaddy.com (GoDaddy is our registrar of choice for many years now) and check the availability of the domain name. GoDaddy will tell you if the name is available for you to use. If the name you want is unavailable, you might want to try a different suffix (.net or .org instead of .com, for instance) or place a hyphen in the name (katetian-moon.com). Another idea is to change the spelling of the name slightly (for instance www.mountaindivas.com might not be available, but you find that www.mountaindivaz.com can be used).
Once you find the domain name you want, write it down exactly as it is available and move on to the next link on the “step-by-step” guide.
